London's Role in the Region
London is the capital of England. England, along with Scotland and Wales, make up Great Britain. Great Britain together with Northern Ireland is known as the United Kingdom. It is a part of the continent of Europe, and is in northern Europe. The whole UK is about the size of the state of Oregon and it is surrounded by water:the North Sea, the Irish Sea, and the English Channel. The significance of the region is that Europe is a major part of western world and is very important as an ally of the U.S. Europe also manufacturers some of its own goods, exports some things to the U.S(like cars) and is a major tourist destination. London is about the size of a circle with a radius of 20miles from the city center. London's role in this region is to be the major economic, political and cultural centers of the UK as well as in Europe and in the world.
